The Wrocław Zoo with the modern Afrkarium is a real gem of Wrocław and at the same time the oldest zoo in Poland, opened in July 1865. Since then, it has existed with great success, with the exception of two short interruptions due to global historical turmoil. Wrocław Zoo is a great attraction for tourists, not only for the youngest guests. It was here, at the Wroclaw Zoo, that the popular program "With a camera among animals" was once filmed, led by the Gucwiński family, who introduced viewers to various species of animals. The most spectacular moment in the history of the Wrocław Zoo was the opening of the Afrkarium in 2014 - a wonderful and modern pavilion with aquatic fauna of the Black Land

Wroclaw Zoo enclosures

At the Wrocław Zoo, you will find almost all the animals in the world, both popular and endangered. Animals live here in friendly conditions, as close as possible to those in natural conditions. One of the newer enclosures in the Wrocław Zoo is the Odrarium - almost 1,000 square meters with a large pool for a native species - an endangered European otter. Odrarium was opened in 2018.  There is also a new Terai pavilion for Indian rhinoceroses, but there are also caper gibbons, Indian uniforms and jelarangi - squirrels with a tail more than 100 cm long!

A catwalk for baboons where you can see their real family life is great. Exotic impressions will be provided by the pre-war Butterfly Terrarium, where you must see elephant turtles living more than 300 years, a tiny frog, a terrible leaf leaf, whose poisons are used by South American Indians to poison arrowheads, birds and a fabulously colorful Butterfly Plant, in which tropical butterflies will flutter over your wings.

Of course, predator runs are very popular. The historic bear fortress - the oldest building in the zoo - deserves attention. The tiger has a nice runway, through which you can look him in the eye through the glass. The Elephant House in Wrocław is historic - this pavilion is 150 years old, spared the turmoil of war and today is home to tapirs, Indian elephants and dwarf hippos. I recommend visiting it, for example, because of the show feeding of Indian elephants.

Experiences at Wroclaw Zoo

It is worth adding the Wrocław Zoo to the list of planned places to visit in this city, especially when you are traveling with a child! In addition to the standard offer, the Zoo offers Zoolandia - a rope park for children and pony rides. The "Climate, People, Animals" Pavilion is unique in the world of the zoo. It is the first one in Poland and one of the first in Europe in a zoo where there are no animals, but you will see multimedia exhibitions here and play educational games. You will learn a lot about
climatic problems and not only around the poles. This pavilion is a great curiosity! The zoo is constantly changing, modernizing, and to avoid queues, especially in summer, you can use the side Japanese Gate near the Oder River, which you can walk to or swim from the Zoo Harbor. I also recommend buying tickets online.

Afrkarium at Wrocław Zoo

Since October 2014, the Afrkarium has been open at the Wrocław Zoo - a wonderful, unique attraction! Modern solutions used in Afrkarium have never been used in Poland before and they are a novelty in the world!

Zoo Wrocław Afrykarium

Afrikarium presents the aquatic ecosystems of the Black Continent, you will see crocodiles, seals, penguins, hippos, various fish, and sharks and rays swim directly above the heads of tourists in a specially prepared tunnel. Aquariums, reservoirs and swimming pools will take us to the heart of Africa! This attraction definitely brings us closer to objects that can be visited in Western Europe or America. It immediately fell to the heart of the inhabitants of Wrocław and tourists, who are never lacking here.

When the Afrkarium in Wrocław was opened, it housed about 250 species of animals, mainly fish. Currently, there are 100 more species here, and the aquarium itself is constantly changing, constantly improving its image and attractiveness. In the Afrikarium in Wrocław, modern solutions were used, in a half-tunnel, fish and other animals swim over the heads of tourists, giving an amazing impression. In other places, they can be observed under water, and not only how they lean above its surface. In addition, all the habitats and enclosures in the Afrkarium are a wonderful scenery, carefully prepared and with an idea. This makes visiting this place a real adventure and pleasure. Be sure to visit them while in Wroclaw!
