Shipwreck history

Wrak Edro III na Cyprze

On December 7, 2011, the freighter Edro III sailed under the flag of Sierra Leone and transported plasterboard from the port of Limassol in Cyprus to the Greek island of Rhodes. During the voyage, the weather deteriorated sharply and a strong storm pushed the unit off course. Eventually, the ship struck the rocks about 10 nautical miles from Paphos. The damaged Edro III drifted towards the shore and ran aground near Coral Bay.

Rescue Action

There were nine crew members on board. Fortunately, everyone was safely evacuated. After the storm, fuel was pumped out of the ship and the cargo was transferred to another unit. Initially, it was planned to remove the wreckage, but this idea was abandoned. Firstly, due to the proximity of protected marine turtle habitats, and secondly, due to great technical difficulties, the wreck was tilted at an angle of 11-12 degrees. Today it is a very interesting tourist attraction.

Accommodation in Cyprus

When we were in Cyprus, we slept in Paphos, at the Nereus Hotel. It looks very nice, it is large and very decent for its reasonable price. It provides a tasty breakfast. The room includes everything you need, a bed, a wardrobe, a desk, a chair and armchair, as well as a kettle with a set of coffees and teas. And, of course, a private bathroom. There is also air conditioning. We ordered the hotel in advance by booking, it cost about PLN 250 per night per room. We had to pay only a few days before leaving for Cyprus.

Here you will find a wide selection of accommodations. By booking your stay on Booking.com through our link, you support the development of our blog — and we thank you in advance!
