Wawel Lost

Wawel Zaginiony

One of the most interesting exhibitions at Wawel

The Lost Wawel is one of the permanent exhibitions that were organized at the Wawel Castle in Krakow. It is an extremely valuable and interesting archaeological and architectural reserve, which includes the WWI Rotunda. Felix and Adauctus (NPMarii) from the 10th and 11th centuries, the remains of a stable and carriage house from the 16th and 17th centuries, relics of Renaissance royal cuisines and objects found on the hill during excavation works.

A walk among the Romanesque walls allows you to travel back in time and almost touch history. Here you will feel that the Polish kings of the Middle Ages really lived, and the dry knowledge from school classes takes on a different dimension here and becomes tangible! The relics of the rotunda rise to a height of 3-7 m, which is quite impressive!

The oldest history of Wawel

The history of the earliest buildings of Wawel is illustrated here by boards, as well as a model showing the spatial layout of the hill in the 18th century. You can also see a virtual reconstruction of buildings from the early Romanesque and Romanesque periods. A rich collection of Renaissance architectural details, such as column decorations, statues, elements of portals or equipment of the Sigismund Chapel, is exhibited in the Lapidarium. The exhibition Lost Wawel is located in 9 rooms, it is payable and you should leave your luggage in the cloakroom before entering.
