Old tower on Dzikowiec

In 2014, a wooden observation tower was erected on Dzikowiec Wielki (836 m above sea level) in the Stone Mountains. It stands at the top station of the cable car and is 20 meters high. It offers a nice panorama of the area. From here you can see Chełmiec Mountain, Waligóra- the highest peak of the Stone Mountains andŚlęża, and Śnieżka in the distance. Interestingly, admission to the tower is free. A staircase leads to the upper observation deck. The tower is massive and does not arouse fear of heights.

New tower on Dzikowiec

In February 2025, a new observation tower was opened on Dzikowiec Wielki. It is a modern structure with a height of 38.5 meters. It offers spectacular views and a 360-degree panorama. You will see fantastic views of the Sudetenland. It has the shape of an inverted cone, and a spiral platform leads to the very top. There are no stairs, although it is difficult to reach this place with a wheelchair. In winter, the platform is quite slippery, you have to be careful, because snow and even ice accumulate on it.

The new tower is just 500 meters from the old tower. There is also free admission here. Both towers are open 24 hours a day all year round.

Interesting facts

  • The Wild Boar has a characteristic, domed shape, due to its volcanic origin. It is made of igneous rocks: - melaphyre and porphyry with a characteristic red coloration
  • The new observation tower was commissioned in February 2025. Elimination of stairs from the structure of the observation tower on Dzikowiec Wielki makes it accessible to wheelchairs
  • In addition to the tourist function, the new tower also serves as an observation tower in the event of a fire in the Sudetes. It also performs a telecommunications function
  • The Stone Mountains, within which Dzikowiec rises, are called the Sudeten Tatras, because there are steep trails, with the steepest trail in the entire Sudetes, which leads to the top of Waligóra, the highest elevation of this range

The tourist infrastructure of Dzikowiec Wielki encourages walks in this area. On the trail, we met a lot of walkers, of different ages. It is an attractive place both in summer and winter. Interesting for family recreation.

No crayfish and poles for the tower

Importantly, remember to remove the crampons in front of the tower and not use sticks on it. We were here less than a week after the official opening, and the platform of the tower was already perforated. It's slippery, but you can stick to the handrail. Let us take care of and respect what is free. Maybe then there will be more free experiences in Poland!

Controversy around the Dzikowiec tower

There has been controversy around the Dzikowiec tower since the beginning. First of all, the tower was built as the second observation tower on this top. This actually raises the question of whether she was needed here. Secondly, there are already many towers around Wałbrzych. So some people ask, why another one?

I know that there are a lot of opponents of such constructions in the mountains. in general. They claim to spoil the landscape. Sometimes towers are built in quite surprising circumstances. Sometimes the views without them are fully satisfactory. But there are such peaks where it is really worth taking advantage of them and they significantly conquer the views and encourage visitors.

Whatever it is, a great advantage is the fact that the tower is available free of charge. Usually, such giants cost a lot. In combination with a walk, a cable car and a ski slope, the tower creates an interesting place for recreation. And the views from it are really wonderful. In addition, it serves as a fire observation point in the Sudetes and has a telecommunications function.
