Rzucewo is a tiny Kashubian village, located on the calm waters of the Puck Bay. It is located north of Gdańsk, between Reda and Puck. Such a quiet place by the Polish sea rarely happens. We were enchanted by the same, because we experienced an exceptionally magical rest here, in a neo-Gothic palace called the Castle of Jan III Sobieski, from which you descend directly over the sea. If you are looking for a beach without screens, without crowds, then Rzucewo will be a very good idea.

Experiences in Rzucewo, or what to see?

Although Rzucewo is small, it turns out to be very interesting for tourists, as it offers several unusual attractions. The castle of Rzucewo, which is actually a palace, comes to the fore. It is literally a few steps away from an exceptionally quiet beach. Be sure to visit the reconstructed elements of the ancient settlement of seal hunters. Check out the best attractions of Rzucewo!

Rzucewo Castle - a neo-Gothic palace from the 19th century

Zzucewo Castle is a castle in name only, but this object is really noble. The building in its current shape was created as a neo-Gothic palace, in the 19th century, for the von Below family. But since the 16th century, the manor house of the Wejher family stood here, which over time fell into the hands of King Jan III Sobieski. He received it from his sister, but more often than the king, his beloved Marysieńka with children resided in the court. Maybe they ate breakfast with a view of the sea, as we had the pleasure.

Currently, the palace in Rzucewo is beautifully revitalized and houses an elegant hotel and restaurant. The surroundings are stunning, with a beautiful garden, horses and a beach at your fingertips. It is worth visiting this place, for example for coffee and a walk. It is also a beautiful scenery for a wedding, which we also witnessed.

Beach in Rzucewo

The beach in Rzucewo is narrow, but sandy and very charming. What sets it apart from other Baltic beaches? There are no crowds, no screens, but there are magnificent trees whose branches bow to the water. There were many moments when it was just for us and the jellyfish that swam beside our feet. They are blue cheeks that do not burn and do not cause any pain to a person. They are more likely to harm themselves because they like shallows and when the sea throws them ashore, they die without water. But there are quite a few of them here. Not everyone likes swimming here, because there are a lot of algae in some places and the water sometimes has a specific smell, but the sunbathing itself is very pleasant. You can also rent a vulture and sail to the calm waters of the bay.

Cultural Park Settlement of seal hunters in Rzucewo

From the beach under the palace, it is worth going for a walk. After about 1 kilometer, you will reach the site of a former, really old seal-hunting settlement. Currently, a small museum and a cultural park have been created here.

It is estimated that there are currently 30,000 seals in the Baltic Sea. Until 100 years ago, there were twice as many of them. And imagine how many of them lived 5,000 years ago, in the Stone Age. At that time, there was a settlement on the very promontory of Rzucewo, whose inhabitants were engaged, among others, in seal fishing. You will see elements reconstructed here, such as a stove or a pillar hut. The objects are scattered exactly in the places where their remains were found during archaeological research. The finds were so valuable that the term "Rzucewo culture" was introduced to reflect their phenomenon. A small exhibition is available in a beautiful Kashubian cottage, and above it you can enter the viewing platform.

A few steps from the palace, on the beach, the pier in Rzucewo enters the sea. It is not long and rarely sees tourists. On the other hand, it offers nice views of the Castles' promontory and an almost wild beach in this village.

Rzucewo's story

It is an old fishing and knightly settlement. Already in the Stone Age, 5,000 years ago, there was a settlement here, where the inhabitants were engaged, among other things, in seal fishing. After 1466, the village was mentioned successively as the property of the Wejher, Sobieski and Przebendowski families. Under the name Ruczewo. Today it is a tourist town, known for its beautiful palace and unusual cultural park.

Accommodation in Rzucewo

While visiting the Bay of Puck, we slept in the Rzucewo Castle. Although it is a castle only in name, it is a fantastic object. The current form of the neo-Gothic palace took place in the 19th century, and earlier there was the court of the Wejher family and King Jan III Sobieski. Currently, after thorough revitalization, the hotel offers an elegant hotel and a restaurant with a cafe. It is probably the most beautifully located palace in Poland. It is only 100 metres from the sea. There are beautifully decorated rooms and a wonderful terrace for breakfast overlooking the sea. Breakfasts are also very tasty and rich. Directly from this terrace you can descend to a secluded beach. The place is unique, for a peaceful holiday in a beautiful facility, with a wonderful garden behind which horses graze.
