Piotrkowska Street is Łódź in a nutshell! It is the city's main pedestrian street, although it is not completely excluded from vehicular traffic.Until a century and a half ago, it was called the Piotrków route, because it led through the forest. And why Piotrkowski? Because he connected Piotrkow Trybunalski with Zgierz.
Today, Piotrkowska is known throughout Poland and is an indispensable showcase of the city. It stretches over 4 km, between Plac Wolności and Plac Niepodległości. It is said that this is not only the longest promenade in Poland, but also in Europe!
Attractions at Piotrkowska Street or Łódź in a nutshell
It is at Piotrkowska Street that the social life of Łódź residents flourishes. Besides, it has always been the center of social life. Numerous restaurants, cafes, pubs and clubs have concentrated here. With all the flavors of the world or hotels, including the most famous, powerful Grand Hotel (Piotrkowska 72). But you'll also find museums, palaces, sumptuous villas and townhouses with Art Nouveau and eclectic facades, and other monuments of Łódź. Numerous souvenirs of the past and architectural gems. They create unusual buildings, which determine the charm and character of the street and the whole of Łódź.
And as befits a film city, famous Polish filmmakers left their "footprint" on Piotrkowska Street: directors, cinematographers and actors in the form of the Avenue of Stars. Biała Fabryka on Piotrkowska Street - Central Museum of Textiles
Ludwik Geyer's White Factory dates back to the first half of the 19th century. He was the pioneer among the flax and cotton weavers in Łódź. He gave the cotton kings an impulse to develop the textile industry, and it was thanks to him that the city expanded at such an avalanche pace. He used the first steam engine in Łódź and built the first factory chimney. Currently, its former factory is the seat of the huge Museum of Textiles.

At the White Factory, it is also worth visiting the open-air museum, where the exhibitions have a different overtone. This is the Łódź City Culture Park. Walking around it, it became sentimental when we saw objects remembered from childhood. Each house is a story of a different family, beautiful stories enchanted in wood.

Heinzl Palace on Piotrkowska Street
Juliusz Heinzl's Palace is an outstanding example of residential architecture in Łódź. It was exhibited by a manufacturer known in the city. Today, it houses the Łódź City Hall. In front of it stands a famous monument - the Tuwim Bench.

Passage of the Rose at Piotrkowska Street
Near the Freedom Square, the Passage of the Rose was hidden in one of the courtyards. This unusual artistic vision is associated with the tragic experiences of the artist, Joanna Rajkowska and her daughter Róza. Soon after her birth, she was diagnosed with an eye cancer, and these slides in the elevation remind us how valuable and important vision is for us. Tourists like to visit it, because it is a recently popular point on the map of Łódź. The momentum of the work is quite impressive!

The Witcher Mural on Piotrkowska Street
Huge murals grow like mushrooms on the walls of buildings. The one with The Witcher is the largest in Łódź and the second largest in all of Poland. It was built on a skyscraper at Piotrkowska 182, on 24 floors and is over 70 meters high! And did you know that the creator of the Witcher character, Andrzej Sapkowski, comes from Łódź and still lives there?

Aleja Gwiazd on Piotrkowska Street - film Łódź
Gwiazd Avenue stretches on Piotrkowska Street between 6 Sierpnia Street and Rubinstein Passage. When creating it, it was modeled on Hollywood. The first brass star appeared here in 1998 for the actor Andrzej Seweryn, who played in the film The Promised Land by Andrzej Wajda, talking about the beginnings of industrial Łódź. Today, there are many more stars, more than 60. On the even side, there are stars of directors, cinematographers and composers, and on the opposite side, actors. Among them are the star of Krystyna Janda, Daniel Olbrychski, Zbigniew Zamachowski and Cezary Pazura. Beata Tyszkiewicz was also present.

Since 1999, the main promenade of Łódź has been decorated with outdoor bronze sculptures depicting famous people associated with Łódź.
