Opole Zoo

Opole Zoo on Bolko Island
The zoo in Opole is located on the Bolko Island and although it is the center of a large city, it is a real oasis of greenery and relaxation, and apart from warm weekends also peace, away from cars, among old trees. The Zoological Garden in Opole was established in the 1930s. Of the twentieth century, but today it seems very modern, and at the same time natural, and this is because the zoo had to be reborn after 1997 and the famous flood in this region. The zoo in Opole covers an area of 20 ha and breeds over 1,000 animals representing over 200 species from around the world. Animals live here in very ingenious and natural pens, reminiscent of their natural habitats. Whether in summer or winter, this place allows you to observe the lives of interesting animals. The stars of the Opole zoo are California sea lions living on a beautiful enclosure with a swimming pool, and since spring 2021 you can also admire lions and tigers here. In general, there are wild cats in the zoo in Opole, both small and currently large. Tourists also love to watch gorillas in the local zoo - great monkeys that strongly resemble humans. And they have a wonderful runway. In addition, the entire zoo area, also outside the catwalks, is very tastefully decorated, with beautiful and well-groomed vegetation, convenient paths and thatched shelters standing here and there. All this makes the Opole zoo simply beautiful, liked and very willingly visited by tourists!

Ingenious catwalks at the Opole Zoo
The view of wild animals on the spectacular catwalks will surely appeal to everyone and no one will leave the Opole zoo disappointed. In recent years, there have been a lot of new catwalks inhabited by unusual species. There is a large family of giraffes, which have a very large area in the air, but also a nice shelter under the roof. It is a modern giraffe shop, one of the best in Poland, where you can easily watch it in winter. They even have trees here, in the middle of the house 🙂Also surprising is the large number of cheetahs, there are majestic irbis, a great gorilla runway, where tourists have a beautiful wooden platform in the form of a balcony, and gorillas even have their own hammocks. It's good to come here at the time of feeding them, you will see, for example, how easily they can unscrew the bottle cap on their own🙂 A big curiosity is a wolf with an ingenious catwalk that allows you to admire this animal. Nowhere else have we ever seen a wolf, and here it is at your fingertips. And the zoo did a good job with the gophers. You can enter a special underground tunnel on their runway to see these animals up close. There are also moose, lemurs, pelicans and many other animal species in the Opole zoo. Of course, the new catwalk for large cats is very impressive. Especially this one for tigers is impressive, with a pond, in which the tiger is often seen, because it is a great swimmer. In the common building, in separate rooms, of course, large cats have their homes under the roof, and tourists can also enter them and watch these beautiful cats in winter, or during sleep and rest.

Experiences at the Opole Zoo
In addition to modern and pet-friendly catwalks, the Zoo in Opole offers imaginative playgrounds and a rope park as an interlude for children (you can use it several times also after a break for watching animals) and a zoolandia, where young animals run loosely among children and can be fed. For everyone, the mega attraction is an interesting sealarium with California sea lions, with shows at fixed times. You can admire the handles on the catwalk from above, from the terrace and how they float underwater in a special tunnel. It's a cool curiosity and a lot of fun to watch the eaves flowing near the glass. In the zoo in Opole, you can also visit the unusual arthropod exhibition or the Biodiversity Land pavilion - here it is always summer, even in the middle of winter, we checked it out on our own and warmed up here during the winter visits to the Opole zoo 🙂 In this large greenhouse you will find a dozen species of animals and a lot of plants from warm countries. There are also several catering outlets in the zoo in Opole, where everyone can eat, cool off with ice cream in summer, and warm up with warm coffee or tea in the café in winter.
