Łagów, called the pearl of the Lubuskie Voivodeship, is a small historic town, very charming and picturesquely located between two lakes spilling here - Łagowski and Trześniowski (Liquid). The waters of both reservoirs almost pour into the streets of the city, creating an amazing atmosphere.

1. Castle of the Order of St. John in Łagów
The Joannites' Castle stands at 3 Kościuszki Street, a medieval stronghold rising above other buildings, in the center of the town. It currently houses a hotel and a restaurant, but the castle tower is open to the public, offering beautiful views of the lakes. The castle is the most valuable monument of Łagów

2. Lake Łagów in Łagów
At Zamkowa Street there is a picturesque Łagowskie Lake, located on the south side of the castle, offers water equipment rentals, platforms and wonderful views, it is more populous and recreational from two Łagów reservoirs

3. Trześniowskie Lake in Łagów
Also at Zamkowa Street there is a second, equally beautiful reservoir, and in my opinion even more picturesque and secluded, located north of the castle. Waters reaching almost the castle and the church, it is a very unique view 🙂 Lake Trześniowskie, also called Liquid, offers boat trips and the possibility of diving due to its great depth, because it is one of the deepest lakes in Poland, with a maximum depth of nearly 60 m

4. Polish Gate in Łagów
Do you have the impression that in Łagów you will find all attractions at Zamkowa Street? Actually, it is 🙂 There is also the Polish Gate - a medieval gothic gate, built of red brick, reconstructed after war damage, it enters the very center of the city

5. March Gate in Łagów
It is true that at Kościuszki Street, but it is literally a stone's throw from Zamkowa Street, there is a nice half-timbered building, located near the Polish Gate, overlooking the castle. It is the Marchian Gate

6. Łagowski Landscape Park
Łagowski Landscape Park is a picturesque protected area that allows you to relax from the hustle and bustle of the city, stretches north of the city, surrounding the entire Licz Lake (Trześniowskie) and additionally adjacent green areas

7. Majaland Kownaty
Majaland Kownaty is an extremely charming and fairy-tale amusement park located west of Łagów, between Kownaty and Torzym, close to the A2 motorway junction and close to the border with Germany. The advantage of this place is the fact that the park is year-round, while the disadvantage is the high prices. An annual ticket is worth it. Ultimately, Majaland will become part of a huge complex called Holiday Park Kownaty.

8. Railway viaduct in Łagów
Above Mostowa Street, there is an interesting railway viaduct in Łagów. It is a technical monument from 1909, 40 m long and 25 m high, built of brick and granite. It was built on the railway line from Toporov to Międzyrzecz.

The Church of St. John the Baptist stands in the city center, at ul. Sulęcińska 10-11, opposite the castle. The building was built of stone and brick in 1726

History of Łagów
The first mentions of Łagów come from 1251. The village was originally owned by the Templar Order, which created its commandery here in 1285. In 1300, Łagów fell into the hands of the Brandenburg margraves, who sold the settlement to Albert von Klepitz the same year. Soon Łagów acquired the Order of the Knights Hospitaller, which contributed the most to the development of the village. The Knights of St. John built their castle here, on a hill above the waters, in the fourteenth century.

In the middle of the 17th century, the village was occupied by the Swedes and Branderburgers. A good time for Łagów was the reign of Krystian Ludwik, when the St. John's Fair began here. In 1727, Łagów even received city rights, but it never developed significantly later, so it lost them in 1931. However, the town has become a valued holiday resort and it is still so to this day.
After the war, Łagów, almost undamaged, was incorporated into Poland, and the indigenous inhabitants were deported to Germany. Despite these rapid changes, the village has retained its recreational role and is currently very popular among tourists, especially those who are looking for water attractions here.
Where to sleep in Łagów?
Łagów is a small town, but in summer it attracts a lot of tourists, so it offers accommodation at different price levels and standards. You will find the most accommodation by the lakes, on campgrounds, camping sites and in summer cottages. The highest shelf is offered by the castle in its hotel part, here you can also visit an elegant restaurant, while we slept in the Sage Pension, in a very quiet place, on Lake Trześniowskie. I highly recommend this place, clean, elegant, private bathrooms, good food, and a nice garden where you will have a nice time and a private almost descent to the lake. Great.
