Lądek-Zdrój is a nice, historic town in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, located in the Kłodzko Valley. It is one of the oldest health resorts in Poland, additionally with probably the most beautiful water pump room in our country. It is, of course, the phenomenal Wojciech Zdrój, but also the city boasts interesting monuments. And it must take exceptionally good care of them, because the location in a bend of the Biała Lądecka River means that it has often struggled with flooding. The last time in 2024. Lądek-Zdrój. Location and access

Lądek-Zdrój in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship is located in the Kłodzko district, between the Złoty Mountains and Krowiarki, at an altitude of about 500 m above sea level. The distance from Wrocław is about 100 km, and from Kłodzko 25 km. It is close to Stronie Śląskie and Złote Stok. The easiest way to get here is by car on the national road No. 8 from Wrocław via Kłodzko. It is about 2 hours drive from Wroclaw. From Opole or Katowice, you can get here by the A4 motorway to Opole and Nysa, then by road No. 46 to Paczków and then by local roads. You can get to Kłodzko by train, and from there by bus.

Lądek Zdrój. One of the oldest spas in Poland! Pearl of Sudeten spas

Lądek Zdrój is a centuries-old town that received city rights as early as in the 13th century, and since the 15th century it has been known as a health resort. The oldest natural treatment plant "Jerzy" was established here in 1498. And it is even said that already in 1241 there were bathing facilities destroyed by the Mongols returning from the Battle of Legnica. In this way, it would be the oldest spa in Poland! In any case, it is one of the oldest, comparable to Cieplice-Zdrój, today's district of Jelenia Góra. Famous people were treated in Lądek Zdrój, such as Empress Catherine II, Emperor (and Tsar) Alexander I, Prussian kings, Goethe, and even John Quincy Adams, President of the United States.

Lądek-Zdrój, or the Pearl of the Sudetenland health resorts, is a small but attractive city. It suffered quite a lot during the flood in 2024, when the water broke the famous stone Gothic bridge, until then considered indestructible. Next to it are the ruins of the Evangelical church, which in turn was defeated by fire. In this part of the city, a bit sluggish, there is also a market square with nice tenement houses and a magnificent Town Hall. You will find more life in the spa area, which attracts

Park Zdrojowy i Zdrój Wojciech (Mineral Water Pump Room). Lądek-Zdrój Pearl

The Spa Park in Lądek-Zdrój is a very pleasant corner of the city, with a fountain in the central place. It is the heart of a health resort, very well maintained with nice alleys, and in summer full of flowers. The most representative building here is the Zdrój "Wojciech" nature treatment plant. It's like an Italian temple, but so shocking that it has a swimming pool inside! And neo-Baroque decorations. The round pool with thermal water, modeled on the Turkish bath, is centrally located on the ground floor under the dome, and around it are marble, 19th-century pearl baths. In order to enter the pool from the outside, as a tourist and not a patient, you need to make an appointment in advance. But the pool is not everything, because the Natural Treatment Plant also offers treatments based on mineral water, showers, and relaxing massages and masks. Mud is also used here. This is all for the health and well-being of patients. On the ground floor you will also find a café, where you will not only drink tasty coffee, but also healthy smoothies. There are also delicious desserts and even soups.

Zdrój Wojciech is a peculiar 2in1. On the first floor, there is a Water Pump Room available for everyone. You can pour the healing waters of Lądek here free of charge from the taps. Mineral springs provide sulfur-fluoride waters that prolong youth, improve the appearance of the skin, flush out heavy metals, and most importantly, reduce cholesterol levels. This is probably the most beautiful Mineral Water Pump Room in Poland. Zdrój Wojciech is probably the oldest spa facility in Poland, built in 1680, over a hot spring of healing water. It was rebuilt in the neo-Baroque style in 1880. Currently, you can stay here in luxury hotel rooms. The interior really impresses, although from the outside it looks extremely impressive! The high dome of Zdrój, Wojciech, encourages and summons you to visit it, and you can admire the refined craftsmanship of architectural decorations up close. This is the most popular attraction of Lądek-Zdrój!

Market Square in Lądek-Zdrój. The main square of the city with the Town Hall, pillory and votive column

The market square in Lądek-Zdrój is a very nice square of the city with beautiful colorful tenement houses and the Neo-Renaissance Town Hall standing in the middle, which was built after the reconstruction of an earlier Renaissance building. The houses in the Market Square date back to the 18th and 19th centuries and represent the Renaissance and Baroque styles. They are mostly decorative, and some have arcades, which definitely adds charm to this place.

Behind the Town Hall rises the impressive Column of the Holy Trinity. This tall, baroque votive column is chiselled by Michael Klahr. It is difficult not to pay attention to this large, richly decorated sculpture. On the other side of the Town Hall you can see the original pillory, probably from 1666. The medieval pillar of disgrace from Lądek did not survive, and it was moved here in 1964 from the village of Skrzynka. It is a slender column with a height of over 3 m on the pedestal, topped with a head with a ball. The monument was destroyed by a flood in 2024, but it is already reconstructed. It is an interesting relic of old customs.

In the vicinity of the Market Square you will find one of the oldest monuments of the city. It is a crossing over Biała Lądecka. The stone bridge in Lądek is a monument a bit like the one in Kłodzko, although it was built a little later. The plaque says that in 1565. It is called gothic, but there is not much gothic left here, because the bridge has already been significantly repaired. Recently, a new plaque was added, because in 2024 it was quite heavily damaged during the flood. Before this flood, we wrote that this bridge had withstood all the high waters of the past, both the old ones and the powerful flood of 1997. This is due to the statue of St. John of Nepomuk from 1709, which decorated it. It was modeled on the figure of Nepomuk from the famous Charles Bridge in Prague. The statue of Lądek belonged to the oldest sculptures of Nepomuk in all of Silesia. Unfortunately, during this last flood, the bridge of which did not survive, the figure disappeared. Unfortunately, we do not know if it has been found. The bridge over Biała Lądecka adds charm to the city from the river side. It was so durable for over 450 years, because in addition to stones and mortar, chicken proteins were also used for construction, as in the case of the Gothic bridge in Kłodzko or Prague. For over a dozen years, the bridge has been excluded from car traffic.

Evangelical Church in Lądek

Near the stone bridge there is a former Evangelical church. Today, it is just the ruins of a burnt-out church, although still impressive. The building was built in 1846 and served the evangelicals, but in 1999 it was consumed by a fire. Since then, the temple has been undeveloped, although there were plans to arrange a gallery with an artistic cafe. It is a pity that the idea was not implemented. It would certainly revive this part of the city, slightly sluggish.

Trail of Marianna Orańska in Lądek-Zdrój

In Lądek, the Marianna Oranńska Trail was created in honor of Princess Marianna, who significantly contributed to the development of the city in the 19th century. Many names in Lądek refer to her name. On this trail, next to the ruins of the church, there is also a historic stone obelisk on Staromłyński Square. This is the Obelisk of Marianne of Orange commemorating the Duchess. It is a neo-Gothic monument from 1866, which commemorates and its contribution to the development of the region's infrastructure, including the construction of the road through Złoty Stok, Lądek and Stronie Śląskie.

Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lądek-Zdrój

The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was erected in the years 1688–1692 on the site of a Gothic church. In the 18th century, the temple was expanded, and in 1804, after a fire, the tower was raised and two porches were added to the temple. In 1815, during another extension, the tower was raised again and covered with an onion helmet, and since then the temple has not undergone any major changes. Unfortunately, in September 2024, during a flood, the church and the parsonage were partially flooded.

Covered Bridge in Lądek-Zdrój

The covered bridge in Lądek-Zdrój is truly unique. The only such facility in Poland and a rarity in the world! It was created in the 1930s. And then moved over Biała Lądecka, it connected 2 sanatoriums: "White Castle" or "White Palace" from the name of the river, at Spacerowa Street and the treatment building at Kościuszki Street. Today, it can only be admired from the outside. Fortunately, it survived the flood of 2024. The designer of this gem was Felix Henry, the same one who had previously designed the Tower of Snow. The bridge is surrounded by a beautiful park where you can see unique tree species, including the Japanese Nikko fir and Engelman spruce from the Rocky Mountains. The Indoor Bridge is one of the most original and beautiful landmarks in Lądek.

Andrzej Zawada Mountain Festival in Lądek-Zdrój

The Mountain Festival in Lądek-Zdrój was originally a Review of Mountain Films. It has been held in the city since 1995 and is one of the most important mountain events in Poland. The main attractions during the festival are the international film competition with screenings of mountain-themed productions. These are both world and Polish premieres, judged in the categories of Grand Prix, Unknown Mountains and Culture, Ecology, Man. At the Festival in the name of Andrzej Zawada, a famous Polish mountaineer, meetings with legends of mountaineering take place. Famous artists such as Reinhold Messner or Krzysztof Wielicki have already performed here. In addition, lectures, climbing workshops and concerts are organized, and all this attracts thousands of mountain enthusiasts. The jubilee 30th edition took place in September 2025.

Biskupie Ponds in Lądek-Zdrój

Biskupie Ponds is an interesting place for recreation located some distance from the center. It is a quiet area for a peaceful holiday, and in addition, a trout frying room and a playground for the youngest have been created near the historic ponds. The Arboretum is right next door.

Arboretum in Lądek-Zdrój and the Source of St. Jadwiga

The Arboretum in Lądek-Zdrój is a quiet walking area, valuable in terms of nature. This Forest Garden is the highest dendrological park in Poland. An oasis of plants from around the world, founded by Mieczysław Wilczkiewicz, on the outskirts of the city at the Biskupie ponds. Admission is paid, but quite cheap. The arboretum is open from May to October. Just behind the arboretum is the historical source of St. Hedwig.

Trojak in the Golden Mountains

Trojak (766 m above sea level) is a scenic peak in the Golden Mountains, in the Eastern Sudetes. It rises above Lądek-Zdrój, and on its top there is a metal viewing platform, which is a great vantage point. It offers a beautiful panorama of the Kłodzko Valley. Trojak rises above the spa part of Lądek-Zdrój, which is why it is a frequent destination for patients' walks. It is covered by the roads: Wielka Okólna and Mała Okólna, which were once run by the salt road from Kłodzko to Moravia. There are marked hiking trails leading to the summit of Trojak: the blue trail from Lądek-Zdrój and the red sightseeing trail from Lądek. At the top you can find characteristic Lądeckie Skałki, including Trojan and Three Bastions. On the south-western slope of Trojak there is the aforementioned arboretum.

Table Rocks are rocks lost in the forest, reached by a path marked with red and white signs from the Marianna guesthouse. The group of Table Rocks consists of 8 gneiss rocks located in the Golden Mountains at an altitude of 465 – 779 m above sea level. To Niżna (465 m above sea level), Baszta (500 m above sea level), Mała (505 m above sea level), Wyżna (520 m above sea level), Iglica or Igliczna (526 m above sea level), Trzy Ambony (660 m above sea level), Kobylicowa (779 m above sea level) and Skalny Ząb (602 m above sea level).

Rock Tooth is an impressive, cracked rock massif with a height of 12 m. It rises on the western slope of Królowka, in the Śnieżnicki Landscape Park. At the top there is a former lookout point with a barrier, to which the stairs once led. Table Rocks together with a group of rocks in the summit parts of Trojak Mountain form Lądeckie Skałki. It's an interesting climbing garden in a gneiss.

Radochowska Cave 

The Radochowska Cave is located in Radochów near Lądek. It is about 1,300 m away from the car park and secured with a grating. It can only be visited with a guide. This is a real treat for underground lovers, but not only. This is a completely different fairy tale than the famous Bear Cave, located nearby. The Radochowska Cave is more wild, there are not many facilities here, which makes its sightseeing authentic and tangible. Here you can touch everything. Indeed, you even have to, because some fragments without support are impassable. There are even chains! A great guide, well versed in things, guides you through the cave.

Castle on the Rock in Trzebieszowice. Accommodation in Lądek

The castle on the Rock in Trzebieszowice is an interesting place, whose history dates back to the 15th century. Originally, it was a knight's seat erected on the rocky bank of the Biała Lądecka River. Fragments of stone walls in the cellars have survived to our times from this period. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the von Reichenbach family erected a Renaissance court with an internal courtyard on the ruins of the knight's residence. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the castle in Trzebieszowice was one of the greatest attractions of the Kłodzko land, lying on the route of magnificent residences by the Biała Lądecka river. It was visited not only by patients from Lądek, but also by tourists from all over Europe. The last significant reconstruction of the castle, at the beginning of the 20th century, was carried out by the Chamare-Harbuval fan family. Its effects can be admired to this day. Particular admiration is a richly carved wooden staircase referring in style to the Viennese Baroque. Today, the castle houses a luxury hotel and SPA, as well as a restaurant. The castle is also open to tourists.

The Gorzanów Palace rises above the village of the same name. It is an unusual object, almost a castle, because the medieval foundations of the knight's tower were also found here. The current Renaissance manor house was erected in the 16th century, and a little later it was expanded to today's monumental size. Now the complex is coming to life and regaining its former splendor after years of neglect. The interiors of this residence are one of the most beautiful in all of Poland! History of Lądek-Zdrój

The city has Piast roots, because Prince Henry Probus granted it city rights as early as in the 13th century, and more precisely in 1282. It is believed that the spa has worked before. Baths were known before the Battle of Legnica, which took place in 1241. In 1498, the dukes of Ziębice expanded the spring, describing the waters as rich in sulfur and salts. The spa survived World War II, and after 1945 the Red Army sanatorium operated here until 1991. Today, it is a popular resort in the Kłodzko Land.

The city was badly hit by floods in 1993 and 2024. At that time, the entire market was flooded. The heart goes to countries when in one moment there is such a great misfortune that nothing can be done about it. To help these people, we can encourage you to come here.
