Kłodzko Fortress - worth visiting in Kłodzko

The history of the Fortress is inextricably linked with the history of the city. The first castle was built here as early as in the 9th century, and later it was systematically expanded. In the sixteenth century, the fortress was already a great defense system of the city, and at the turn of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, bastions were still created. Kłodzko Fortress was one of the largest fortresses in Silesia! Today it is open to tourists.

Gothic bridge in Kłodzko

In the vicinity of the Market Square, at Wita Stwosza Street, you need to visit an extremely romantic, gothic bridge. Flipped over at Młynówka, it delights with beautiful sculptures. Although it is short, it brings to mind the one in Prague, which is why Kłodzko is sometimes called Little Prague, although the statement is rather small. It is the oldest gothic bridge in Poland!

Market Square in Kłodzko

The central part of Kłodzko is a nice and well-maintained Market Square with a magnificent Town Hall, a high Marian Column and tenement houses. It is very characteristic because it is sloping. Beautifully and romantically illuminated in the evenings, just like the whole old town.

The tenement house under the wolf in Kłodzko - the legend of Filipko's prophecy

Behind the Gothic bridge, on Grottgera Street, there is a famous tenement house. It is a baroque building, one of the oldest, if not the oldest, residential tenement house preserved in the city. It dates back to the end of the 17th century, when it stood on the walls of two residential houses. It underwent a major reconstruction at the beginning of the 20th century, when a sculpture of a wolf appeared on the facade between the windows at the height of the first floor. Hence, it is sometimes called a tenement house under the wolf.

An urban legend is associated with this animal. The late, local clairvoyant Filip Fediuk, nicknamed Filipek, predicted that when the three sevens met, there would be a cataclysm. Then the wolf in Kłodzko will drink water. How eloquent this prophecy became when on July 7, 1997, during a great flood, the water reached the height of the bas-relief.

Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary - temples in Kłodzko

Among the sacred monuments in Kłodzko, the Gothic parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary comes to the fore. It is located at the Church Square and is characterized by very interesting architecture. Its interiors are quite dark, which adds to its charm. This monument is also spectacularly illuminated after dark. It looks particularly interesting from Kościelna Street, from where a rather poignant gate leads here. The church of MB Bolesna with the Franciscan monastery (Franciscan Square) is also interesting.

The Iron Bridge is an interesting element of the city, which today is a monument. Initially, it was called the Horse Bridge, or Rossbrücke, after the square at which it was located (Rossmarkt). It is a steel riveted arch bridge. It was built in 1882-83, during the expansion of the city. Over time, its role decreased and it was excluded from road traffic, but after the flood of the millennium in 1997, it was modernized and made available again for cars.

Kamieniec Palace

About 10 km from Kłodzko, in the small village of Kamieniec, there is the wonderful Kamieniec Palace, decorated in the Gustavian style. It is a gem among the palaces of Lower Silesia, where you can spend a special night and taste the tasty specialties of their cuisine, which was included in the Yellow Guide of Gault & Millau Poland.

Sarny Castle in Ścinawka Górna

Pałac Kamieniec
Pałac Kamieniec

The Sarny Castle in Ścinawka Górna gives the lie to the statement "Silesia, the land of dying palaces". It is an amazing complex, picturesquely located in the western part of the Kłodzko Valley, or rather a little beyond it, but on the Kłodzko land, in the central Sudetes. It is only a 20-minute drive from Kłodzko.

It is true that it still requires a lot of work, but it also has great potential. We were captivated by this place! We visited the interiors of the ruined building, tasted delicacies in the cafe and stayed overnight in the already renovated buildings of the farmhouse.

The palace complex has medieval roots, when a knight's tower was built. His larger career began in the 16th century, more precisely in 1590. At that time, there was a Renaissance manor house with fortifications. True prosperity is associated with the Götzen family. It expanded the building into a beautiful palace, which is the ancestral seat.

At that time, it was one of the most impressive residences in the Kłodzko Land. It was called Scharfeneck. It was not until the times of the Polish People's Republic that this place was called the Sarny Castle. At that time, it was pgr, which is one of many state farms in Poland.
