Colorful lakes in Rudawy Janowickie. Here mining meets nature

The colorful lakes in Rudawy Janowickie are a charming and unique attraction, which in 2011 was ranked 3rd in the New Wonders of Poland National Geographic Travel plebiscite. This is an amazing natural phenomenon, where the history of mining meets beautiful nature. There is a green hiking trail connecting the colourful ponds.

Colorful Lakes: location and parking
You will find colorful lakes in Wieściszowice, northwest of Kamienna Góra, in Lower Silesia. This is the area of the Janowickie Rudawy Mountains, near the Rudawski Landscape Park.
We stood in the first parking lot, with the beach and fast food. It costs only PLN 5 per day. Next to the road leading to the lakes, there are several more expensive parking lots. The latter, already at the Yellow Lake itself, is out of use, it is not worth standing, because there are fines.

Colorful Lakes: Yellow, Purple, Blue and Green
There are 4 eyelets: Yellow Lake, Purple Lake, Blue Lake and Green Lake. In fact, they change colors that come from different ores. The Yellow Lake emerges first as a small eye in the trees and fantastic rocks. The Purple Lake spills right next to it. For me, it is the most spectacular and beautifully located. A little further you have to walk along the green trail to Blue, and even further there is the periodic Green Lake. The path to the ponds is also very interesting in itself and ideal for exploration. Just be careful, because the places are steep, and in addition you will encounter a lot of protruding roots, which, however, adds to the picturesqueness.

Other colorful lakes in Poland
We heard so much good about this place that our expectations were really high. The whole is very charming, but now the lakes have dried up to some extent and are smaller than a few years ago. It reminds me more of our Silesian Bible with the colourful lakes of Pasieka than the much more spectacular Lubuskie Geopath of the Former Babina Mine in Łęknica, on the Mużaków Arch.

Origins of lakes
The genesis of lakes is similar everywhere in these places. In ore-rich areas, there were mines that left such an impressive mark. The richness of iron, copper or pyrite ores can be seen not only in the color of the lakes, but also on the rocks. Amazing ! From them also came the name of the entire Rudawa Janowickie range.
