Archaeological research at Chojnik Castle

In 2013 and 2014, archaeological research conducted by scientists from the University of Wrocław was carried out at Chojnik Castle. During this research, a vaulted cellar was discovered in the upper castle, in the palatium, probably collapsed during the fire of the castle in 1675. The cellar had a probably barrel vault with a span of up to 8.4 m. An even more interesting discovery is the foundations of a round tower with a diameter larger than a shell tower, which was erected later. It is not excluded that it may come from the period of construction of the upper castle or it may have been an independent tower surrounded by wooden buildings.
